The Senate is adjouned until Monday, April 19th, 2004. At 1:00 p.m. the Senate will reconvene for a period of morning business before beginning consideration of S.2290, the Asbestos bill. No votes are scheduled for Monday, and votes are expected during the session on Tuesday, April 20th.

April 8th Question: In 1880, the copper mines in Vershire, Vermont produced over three million pounds of copper (three-fifths of the entire copper output of the United States) and the town decided to change its name to honor the man who owned the mines. In 1882, the town changed its name back to Vershire. From1880-1882, what was the name of the town?
Answer: The town's name was changed to Ely in 1878 after Smith Ely, a local business man who owned the majority of the Vermont Copper Company. |
