Senator Jeff Sessions from Alabama came to the floor to briefly speak about reported growth in the economy. Stating that jobs follow growth he heralded recently reported good news on the economy, such as the fact that in many small towns, sales taxes are up.

With today being the last day for the current group of pages in the Senate, Senator Tom Daschle has come to the floor to thank them for their hard work over the past five months. Senate pages are high school students who assist with the day-to-day functions of the Senate floor while also taking school courses for one semester.

Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama is beginning today with reminding his colleagues that the next vote will be on Senator Kennedy's amendment, and that vote will take place on Tuesday. He is also reminding them that no first degree amendments may be offered to the Department of Defense Authorization bill after 5:00 on Monday.

The Senate will convene this morning at 9:30 to resume consideration of S.2400, the Department of Defense Authorization bill. Senator Ted Kennedy's amendment is presently pending to the legislation. No votes are expected to occur today.
