Senator Warner is speaking about the hard work of the Senate Armed Services Committee on the Defense Authorization bill.  He said that the Senate will not move forward on the legislation this week and that the Senate Armed Services Committee is also going to reschedule a hearing that was supposed to take place on Thursday.

Senator Burns of Montana is speaking on the passing of President Reagan.  He is remarking that seeing the Senate Pages made him realize that there is an entire generation that will never here the President speak, or meet him or get to know him.  The Senator is relating a story about the President's visit to Billings, Montana in 1982.  He noted that when you met him, you knew he was a man of the people.

The Senate has been in an extended quorum call this afternoon, with no senators seeking recognition to speek.  The Senate is expected to put aside its legislative agenda this week to pay tribute to the life of President Reagan.  Beginning Wednesday night the President will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

Senator Cornnyn of Texas is speaking about the life of Ronald Reagan and what he says are the great examples the President left us.  The Senator said he believes the President was always underestimated and that many did not think that he should be taken seriously.  Senator Cornyn continued by saying that Ronald Reagan reminded us a good man can also survive in this world of electoral politics.  He siad that the one thing that made him such an attractive figure in American life was his principle.

Senator Alexander recalled an evening in the life of President Reagan at the Gridiron Dinner with the press, who had an adversarial relationship with the President.  After the crowd finished applauding his entrance the President acknowledged how hard it is to clap with your fingers crossed.  Senator Alexander also recalled the President's unconventional attitude towards policy making, including his defense policy on nuclear weapons.

Senator Dole is speaking about how Ronald Reagan led our country.  The Senator served in the White House while Ronald Reagan was president, including five years as Secretary of Transportation.  She said that she will always his rapport with the American people and how he treated every person with courtesy and respect.  Senator Dole also recalled a conversation she had with the President before one of his speeches where she asked him how he always kept so composed during all the tense times, and he replied that when he was Governor of California it seemed that every day he had a new struggle to deal with and that instead of looking behind him for assistance he looked up towards the heavens.  She concluded by saying that she is sure that President Reagan will be welcomed into heaven with open arms.

Senator Frist is speaking about the life of Ronald Reagan and the ceremonies to honor his life, work and achievements.  The Senator said said this while we say goodbye to the man, we must never say goodbye to his values.  He continued to say that we reaffirm that we believe above all in ourselves as Americans.

The Senate reconvenes this afternoon at 1:30 for a period of morning business after which debate on S.2400, the Department of Defense Authorization bill, will resume. No votes are expected to occur today.
