The Senate voted 59-38 to table the Boxer amendment.  There will be no more votes this evening and the Senate will returen tomorrow for further consideration of the Energy Bill.  Other highlights of the day tomorrow off the Senate floor are:

1) Judiciary Committee Hearing on Detainees

2) Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee vote on Lester Crawford to be head of the Food and Drug Administration

3) Finance Committee Hearing on the "Future of Medicaid"

6:00:05 PM

Debate on the Energy Bill has focused on two issues this afternoon, coastal oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the production of ethanol.  Senators Nelson and Martinez of Florida have made a bipartisan appeal not to include provisions in the Energy Bill that could potentially open the Gulf Coast to drilling.  The Senate is now voting on whether to table an amendment proposed by Senator Boxer that would strike liability protections for ethanol producers.  This amendment has also garnered bipartisan support and opposition, as senators from states that produce ethanol have come together to oppose the amendment.
5:47:52 PM

After breaking for the weekly policy lunches, the Senate has returned to continue debate on a national energy policy.  Senator Dorgan is speaking on the floor regarding our country's obsession with oil.  He has been discussing why he thinks we need to develop energy sources to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.  Debate will continue this afternoon, and votes are possible if senators come to the floor to offer amendments to the energy bill.
2:31:23 PM

By a vote of 73-24 the Senate voted to confirm the Griffith nomination.  The Senate will now turn to consideration of the Energy Bill, which is expected to be debated for the better part the next two weeks.
10:45:41 AM

The Senate is voting on the nomination of Thomas Griffith to be a United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia.
