Sunshine Week
2008
March 16 - March
22 is the fourth annual Sunshine Week,
a weeklong
commemoration of open government, freedom of information and the
public’s right to know, which has continued to grow under the
supervision of news organizations around the country.
This year there is some encouraging news, now that the newly enacted
Leahy-Cornyn bill to
strengthen the Freedom Of Information Act was signed into law.
Senator Leahy and Senator Cornyn again teamed up to begin a new FOIA
reform effort. They introduced their
OPEN FOIA Act, to bring more transparency to the process when
Congress and any administration seek to carve out exemptions in the
FOIA law.
Read about Leahy's most recent efforts below or you can check out
his FOIA webpage here.
