Senator Leahy is proud to represent a state whose citizens have a strong interest in foreign affairs.  As Chairman and Ranking Member of the Foreign Operations Subcommittee for more than a decade, he has worked to incorporate the views of Vermonters into United States foreign policy, especially on important issues such as combating global poverty, eradicating infectious diseases, protecting the environment, and promoting human rights.

Whether aiding developing countries or addressing international terrorism,  whether protecting civilians from becoming innocent victims of war or considering nominees for important positions in designing and implementing our foreign policy, he is committed to working to resolve conflict and improve the lives of people around the world.
