The Middle East
The United States has had a long
history and a wide range of strategic interests in the Middle East,
from support for Israel and other emerging democracies, stability
between Israel and its Arab neighbors, to the protection of
important petroleum resources and combating international
terrorism.
In the last several years, U.S.
efforts at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have been
ineffective as attempts to implement a negotiated two-state solution
have stalled. As Chairman or Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on
Foreign Operations for over a decade, I have long supported a
peacefully negotiated agreement, which respects the national
identities of both Israelis and Palestinians, ensures Israel’s
security, and provides for a viable Palestinian state.

The United
States along with the international community must make
peace and stability in the Middle East a top priority by
encouraging peace between Israelis and Palestinians, while
strengthening relationships with moderate Arab governments.
Only through engagement, tolerance, and fairness toward both
sides will we see a lasting peace in the Middle East.

these reports available to the tax payer. You can read more

Until then, I've made the below reports available in PDF form to help
