4:40 P.M.
Senator Snowe of Maine is
speaking about the importance of the Highway Funding bill to her state.
The Highway Funding bill contains significant funding for repairing roads
and other transportation throughout the country.
4:00 P.M.
Senator Kyl is defending the
decision to go to war with Iraq. He is responding to criticism made
by Senator Dorgan about the intelligence provided before the war.
3:50 P.M.
Senator Dorgan is speaking on
the Senate floor about a speech that CIA Director George Tenet gave today
about pre-war intelligence provided to the White House about Iraq.
Senator Dorgan stated that he is concerned that the White House is not
more concerned about the apparent intelligence failure.
3:30 P.M.
Senator Daschle is speaking on
the Mad Cow Disease and an international report that was released
recently. Senator Daschle has been an advocate for requiring country
of origin labeling on meat, vegetables and other perishable food products.
The FY 04 Omnibus Appropriations bill that passed in January, prevented
country of origin labeling regulations from being implemented this year.
2:30 P.M.
Senator Frist is speaking on
the Senate floor about the FY04 Appropriations bill and school choice in
the District of Columbia. He is thanking many of the Senators who
supported this effort. Senator Frist is also speaking about the
defense of marriage.
1:00 P.M.
Senator Ted Kennedy of
Massachusetts is speaking on the floor about collective bargaining.
12:30 P.M.
Senator James Jeffords of
Vermont spoke on the floor about the need for funding for safer routes to
school, citing the statistic that 16,000 school children are injured or
killed during school travel hours.
12:00 P.M.
The Senate began today with a
period of morning business prior to resuming consideration of S.1072, the
Highway Funding bill.
