The Focus of Today's Session will be
the FY2005 Budget Resolution

5:45 P.M.

Senator Stabenow is speaking about the budget and the lack of funding for many governmental programs. She has also focused on the size of the deficit in the scope of what the government spends outside of defense programs.  There will be no votes this evening. 

4:30 P.M.

Senator Allard is speaking on the Senate floor about the budget and the President's budget.  He is comparing government spending increases and tax cuts in the context of the national debt. 

3:30 P.M.

Senator Sarbanes and Senator Conrad have continued their discussion of the President's budget priorities.  They have been comparing the cost of the President's tax cut, with the lack of funding provided to states to comply with No Child Left Behind. 

2:45 P.M.

Senator Sarbanes, Ranking Member of the Banking Committee, is speaking on the floor about the budget outlook.  He and Senator Conrad have been talking back and forth about the future of Social Security based on Chairman Alan Greenspan's recent comments.

1:35 P.M.

Senator Conrad is speaking about the budget priorities laid about by the President.  In examining the Presidents proposed small budget for veterans and police offices compared to his large tax cuts for wealthier Americans, Senator Conrad is questioning whether the President has the same priorities as the American people.  

1:25 P.M.

Senator Kent Conrad, aided by a number of charts, is talking about the cuts to funding for first responders and port security based on the President's proposed budget. The Senator is also showing that 68.7% of the benefits from President Bush's income tax cuts goes to the top 20% of the population. 

12:00 P.M.

The Senate will convene at noon to begin consideration of the FY2005 Budget Resolution. No roll call votes are expected today.
