The Focus of Today's Session will be
Morning Business

2:20 P.M.

Senator Frist is wrapping up the legislative week with a recap of the actions of the Senate.  Late last night the Senate approved the Budget Resolution by a close margin with a vote of 51-45.  The budget resolution establishes various budget totals, divides spending totals into functional categories (e.g., transportation), and may include reconciliation instructions to designated House or Senate committees.  The Budget exists as a framework for Congress to establish actual funding levels for Departments and programs which will be established later in the year through the Appropriations process.  The Senate has adjourned and stands in recess until March 22, 2204 at 12:00 noon, ET.

12:30 P.M.

Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont is speaking about landmines. To read a previous statement Senator Leahy made about the Bush Administration's decision to reverse an earlier U.S. pledge to eventually sign the international treaty to ban the use of anti-personnel landmines, click here

11:00 A.M.

Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota is speaking about the nomination of Mark McClellan to head the U.S. agency which oversees Medicare.  Dr. McClellan has been the head of the Food and Drug Administration since November, 2002. Late last night, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Dr. McClellan.  Senator Dorgan had been outspoken against this nomination because of Dr. McClellan's opposition to allowing Americans to buy cheaper medicines from Canada after Senator Dorgan released the hold he had on this nomination.

10:00 A.M.

After a late night last night, the Senate resumes this morning at 10:00 for a period of morning business.

 Today's Fun Vermont Trivia Question:

Thursday's Question: While most people associate the name of this town with cheese, Major Lyman Hitchcock named this Vermont town after his fiancée. What is the town?
 Answer: Cabot.

Check back Monday morning for the answer and a new question!
