NBCC HONORS SENATORS AT CONGRESSIONAL BREAKFAST
6th Annual Capitol Hill
Rally Follows Breakfast
(Washington, DC)
On Tuesday, May 5, 1998 the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) will
honor Members of Congress whose support and leadership help the Coalition
work toward its goal of eradicating breast cancer.
The Congressional Awards
Breakfast follows NBCC's Advocacy Training Conference, May 24, where hundreds
of breast cancer advocates from across the country gather to learn how
to become better advocates through training in breast cancer science and
public policy. A variety of topics from clinical trials to alternative
medicine are covered during the threeday conference.
Senators D'Amato (RNY), Leahy
(DVT), Mack (RFL) and Stevens (RAK) will each receive an award for their
work on key legislative proposals. The award is given on behalf of
NBCC's membership that represents thousands of breast cancer advocates
and activists throughout the United States.
"These Senators have been
steadfast in their support of NBCC and our mission," said Fran Visco, NBCC
president. "While most of the initiatives we've been working on were not
enacted, they are still high priorities for us and the continued efforts
of Senators D'Amato, Leahy, Mack and Stevens will be essential to bring
about important legislative changes."
Immediately following the
breakfast, NBCC members will rally on Capitol Hill to voice their support
for NBCC's legislative priorities. More than 400 activists are scheduled
to attend the rally and many will meet individually with their local Congressional
representative afterward.
The National Breast Cancer
Coalition is a grassroots organization whose purpose is to eradicate breast
cancer through action and advocacy. Since its inception in 1991,
NBCC has grown to more than 450 member organizations and 58,000 individual
members nationwide.
