The Senate's Votes on the Articles of Impeachment
February 12, 1999
"The House of Representatives was sold a bill of goods by Kenneth Starr.
Every Senator, Democrat and Republican, disapproved of the President's action, but the Senate did not buy all of Mr. Starr's theories in the process. In voting to acquit, the Senate conserved the Constitution and its guide to impeachment. The President now will have to answer to history for his misconduct.
"There are no winners here except the Constitution and the Framers, who gave us a process that has protected the nation and our republic. Now we must do all we can to move beyond this and to come together to do the people's work."
