Leahy Praises Mobilized Green Mountain Boys

"Today 139 members of the Vermont Air National Guard -- fellow Vermonters, friends, neighbors and co-workers – were activated under a Presidential Selected Reserve Call Up. The transfer of these members of the Vermont Air National Guard to federal status will better enable the158th Fighter Wing to continue its participation in Operation Noble Eagle, the ongoing defense of the country. More than 300 members of the unit are already participating in the operation on full-time, federal status.

"Since the days of Ethan Allen, the Vermont National Guard has answered the call to duty. They have served proudly in every significant war and contingency, bringing their special brand of courage and professionalism to their mission. Once again, the Green Mountain Boys have received the call to duty. They have trained for the challenges that lie ahead of them I know they will make Vermont and the entire nation safer, while also making us all proud.

"Friends, families and employers are part of this mission alongside our soldiers and pilots. I know that the Vermont Guard and the State of Vermont will do everything possible to make the mobilization easier on everyone. I know that we all understand that the country needs the service of these exceptional Vermonters."
