Vermont Congressional Delegation
Comments On The Discovery Of Anthrax
In Mail Sent To Senator Daschle
"The discovery of an anthrax-bearing package,
addressed to Senator Daschle, is a disturbing development that once again
demonstrates how the world changed on Sept. 11.
"The House and the Senate have put in place added
security procedures concerning mail. We believe it is important for
Vermonters to know that this will slow the mail sent to our offices in
Vermont and in Washington, but the mail will still get through. We are
determined to keep open the lines of communication that we have always had
with the people of Vermont. We also encourage our constituents to consider
the option of sending their messages by e-mail to speed the process.
"Given the large volume of mail received each day
in congressional offices, this latest threat, for now, is a small one, but
it is real, and the precautions taken in the Senate and House to deal with
it are warranted. We offer our support and concern to Senator Daschle and
his staff, and we know that these developments also have increased the
pressures already felt by postal employees and others, including our own
staffs."
