           Your December 4th letter raises serious concerns about the review of the Nestle-Ralston Purina proposed merger, as well as its anticipated impact on competition for shelf space in retail stores and on the purchase of poultry meal.

            Be assured that I will give appropriate attention to the issues you have raised and will do what I can to see that our agency properly reviews the transaction with a goal of protecting consumers and competition.
