White River Junction Firm
Hosts Leahy And Welcomes News
Of $2.8 M. Contract
To Create Turbo Engine Test
WHITE RIVER JCT.,
Vt. (Tues., Dec. 16) – Sen. Patrick Leahy told employees and
managers at Concepts NREC in White River Junction Tuesday that he
has secured a $2.8 million contract with the U.S. Army in the 2004
budget bill for the Department of Defense. Leahy is a senior member
of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Defense,
which handles the Senate’s work in writing the annual defense
appropriations bill.
The new funds will
be used by the 100-person company headquartered in White River
Junction to develop an advanced engine test machine. The engines
being tested will eventually be used on U.S. Army Unmanned Aerial
Vehicles (UAVs). Concepts NREC is recognized internationally as one
of the world’s leading authorities on turbo propulsion.
“The engineers and
employees at Concepts’ will be helping the Army to reliably use
drones instead of American pilots in some of the most dangerous
situations in the skies,” said Leahy. “Their work keeps pilots
safer and our soldiers better able to defend themselves and to
perform their missions.”
Leahy
said this contract is also timely: It helps Concepts stabilize its
workload and payroll during the current sluggish economy and the
falloff in NASA-related work in the wake of the Columbia tragedy.
