Leahy: Village Of Johnson
To Receive $2 Million Facelift
(TUESDAY, Nov. 30) – Sen.
Patrick Leahy announced Tuesday that the Village of Johnson will receive a
nearly $2 million federal investment in its economic vitality through
funding to help redevelop pedestrian access, bicycle access and traffic
flows on Main Street. Leahy, a senior member of the Senate committee that
writes the federal budget, included the funds in an appropriations bill
approved by Congress before the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
Leahy said Johnson
officials will use the $1,984,000 to make general streetscape improvements
including making upgrades to Route 15, improving pedestrian walkways,
integrating a bicycle pathway into the village and adjusting lighting
through the village.
“Route 15 is a busy road,
which is a mixed blessing for the residents of Johnson – it’s great for
business but not all that comfortable to walk across,” said Leahy, a senior
member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “These improvements will
help make the village an easier place to do business and a nicer place to
go for a walk or go for a bike ride. Pedestrians and cyclists will be
safer, and the village will maintain its unique Vermont appeal.”
