Mueller To Testify At FBI
Oversight Hearing In September
WASHINGTON (Wednesday, August 13,
2008) – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)
today announced that Federal Bureau of Investigation Director
Robert S. Mueller will testify before the Senate panel at an
oversight hearing scheduled for September 17. Mueller last
appeared before the Committee in March.
Earlier this week, Leahy and
Ranking Member Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) sent a
letter to Mueller pressing for more information about the
misuse of so-called “exigent letters.” Press accounts last week
revealed that Mueller apologized to editors at
The New York Times
and The Washington Post
for a 2004 breach of reporters’ phone records.
Under Leahy’s chairmanship, the
Judiciary Committee has held periodic oversight hearings of the
FBI with the Bureau’s Director. The oversight hearing will be
held Wednesday, September 17 at 9:30 a.m. Non-credentialed
members of the press should contact the Senate Press Galleries
for information about how to attend the hearing.
