Comment Of Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.),
Chairman, Senate Judiciary Committee,
On The Appointment Of Miriam Nisbet
As The First Director Of The Office Of Government Information Services
June 10, 2009
“I applaud President Obama and Acting Archivist
of the United States Adrienne Thomas for appointing Miriam Nisbet as the
first Director of the Office of Government Information Services (OGIS)
within the National Archives and Records Administration. As one of the
key FOIA reforms enacted under the Leahy-Cornyn OPEN Government Act of
2007, OGIS will provide essential policy guidance and mediation services
for the government’s Freedom of Information Act activities. Ms. Nisbet
brings a wealth of information policy experience and a deep commitment
to open government to this critical post. I welcome her appointment,
and I look forward to working closely with her to ensure that FOIA
remains a vital and meaningful open government tool for all Americans.”
