  • December 13:  Georgetown University Law Center - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy, the incoming Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the 110th Congress, delivered a remarks at the Georgetown University Law Center Dec. 13.  Leahy's fielded questions from the press and others following his remarks, which outlined plans and proposals for the Judiciary Committee in the new Congress.  Leahy will also serve as the Chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee when the 110th Congress convenes on January 4.  For more from Leahy's remarks, click here.]

  • December 6:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), center, was joined by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.) at a Dec. 6 press conference to discuss the report released by the Iraq Study Group.  The report includes 79 recommendations intended to help bring stability to Iraq and the region.  Leahy is the incoming chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.  For more, click here.]
  • December 1:  Vermont Drug Task Force - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy, right, announced Dec. 1 that the Vermont Drug Task Force will receive $1.75 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Justice.  Leahy was joined by Public Safety Commissioner Kerry Sleeper.  The Task Force has been instrumental in combating the rise in heroin and methamphetamine use in Vermont.  For more, click here.]
  • December 1:  World AIDS Day - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy was visited Dec. 1, World AIDS Day, by dozens of students from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., who presented Leahy with a thank you card for his support in combating global AIDS.  The card featured the signatures of students from St. Michael's, Leahy's alma mater.  Leahy, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has been a leader in Congress in the fight to combat AIDS worldwide.]

  • October 27:  Community Health Education Center Opening - [PICTURED: Sen.   • September 27:  Tribute to Sen. Jeffords - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), right foreground, paid tribute Sept. 27 to friend and colleague, retiring Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.), left background.  Leahy and Jeffords came to Washington together in 1974, when Leahy was elected to the Senate and Jeffords to the House.  Jeffords delivered his final floor statement Sept. 27.  He will retire from the Senate when the 109th Congress adjourns.  For video of Leahy's remarks about Jeffords, click here.  For the text of his remarks, click here.]
  • September 19:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) spoke at a press conference September 19 opposing proposed decisions in the FY 2007 Defense Authorization Bill that would weaken the National Guard.  Leahy, a co-chair of the Senate National Guard Caucus, has been a long-time advocate for the National Guard, and has made recent efforts to empower the National Guard within the Pentagon.  For more, click here.]
  • September 11:  Naturalization Ceremony - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), center, joined with other Vermont officials during the September 11, 2006 naturalization ceremony of 74 new American citizens.  The ceremony was presided over by U.S. District Judge William Sessions, second from right, and was held in the Statehouse in Montpelier.  Thirty-two countries were represented among the new immigrants.  For more, click here.]

  • August 19:  Vermont Air Guard Air Show - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), second from left, joined Maj. Gen. Michael Dubie, Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard, Lt. Gen. Craig R. McKinley, Director of the Air National Guard, and Brigadier Gen. William Etter, Assistant Adjutant General of the Vermont Air National Guard for the 60th anniversary of the Vermont Air National Guard.  Leahy and others viewed an air show by the Vermont Guard's Thunderbirds August 19 from the ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington.]
  • August 18:  Purple Heart Presentation - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), left, presented Robert Blondin of Milton with the Purple Heart Medal August 18.  Leahy, joined by his wife Marcelle, worked with the United States Navy to obtain the Combat Action Medal after hearing Mr. Blondin's moving story.  The presentation ceremony took place in Winooski.  For more, click here.]
  • August 15:  Sen. Leahy Visits Revision Eyewear - [PICTURED:  Sen.   • July 26:  Committee Hearing - [PICTURED:  Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tx.), also a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, address the House of Representative's Subcommittee on Government Management, Finance and Accountability July 26.  Leahy and Cornyn were invited to testify as the panel held a hearing to examine the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).  Leahy and Cornyn have effectively led a bipartisan effort to strengthen FOIA.  Leahy was inducted into the FOIA Hall of Fame in 1996.  For more, click here.]
  • July 20:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) July 20 hailed the Senate's passage of the Voting Rights Act Reauthorization Act by a vote of 98-0.  The Senate considered the legislation to renew the expiring Voting Rights Act, which was signed into law in 1965.  Leahy and Specter, the ranking member and chairman of the Senate's Judiciary Committee, respectively, led Senate efforts to pass the legislation.  For more, click here.]
  • July 20:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) joined Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.) July 20 for a Capitol Hill rally in support of aggressive climate change legislation which Jeffords introduced in the Senate July 20.  Joined by other senators and young representatives of environmental protection organizations in the nation's capitol,  Leahy and Jeffords spoke of the importance in passing climate change legislation to curb the effects of global warming and other threats to our environment.]
  • July 19:  Judiciary Committee Hearing - [PICTURED: Sen.   • July 19:  Judiciary Committee Hearing - [PICTURED: Kathy Miller, co-owner of the Elmore Store in Lake Elmore, Vermont, testified July 19 before the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Miller testified about the impact of the continuing rise in hidden fees charged to businesses by large credit card companies.  Small businesses like the Elmore Store are being steadily squeezed by the fees.  For more, click here.]
  • July 13:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) was joined July 13 by Senate and House leaders on Capitol Hill to commend the historic House vote on legislation to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act.  The Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Leahy is the ranking member, is expected to consider the legislation on July 19.  Senate and House leaders were joined by civil rights groups including the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Asian American Justice Center, and the National Congress of American Indians.  For more, click here.]

  • June 28:  Press Conference - [PICTURED: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), center, was joined June 28 by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), left, and Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) in supporting legislation introduced in the Senate to provide emergency funding to support free credit monitoring for the more than 26.5 million veterans and active duty service members who's identity was stolen in May.  The White House announced its plans to offset the more than $160 million cost by dipping into farm subsidy, student loan and food stamp programs.  For more information, click here.]
  • June 15:  Consumer Federation of America Annual Awards Dinner - [PICTURED: Sen. Hayden, President Bush's nominee to head the Central Intelligence Agency.  Hayden testified before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on May 18.  The Committee is expected to report the nomination to the full Senate for consideration on May 23.]
  • May 18:  Taste of Vermont - [PICTURED: Sen. and Mrs. Patrick Leahy, together with the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Vermont Convention Bureau, and the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation hosted Washington, D.C.'s first Taste of Vermont reception on Capitol Hill May 18.  More than 40 Vermont businesses, resorts, and food and beverage makers showcased their product to more than 300 guests, including Sens. Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).]
