Dear Vermonter,
It is that time of year again, and
Marcelle and I are delighted to invite you to join us for
the 10th Annual Women’s Economic Opportunity
Conference, on Saturday, October 28, 2006, on the campus of
Vermont Technical College in Randolph. The role of
women in Vermont’s economy has burgeoned since we began
these conferences, and I am proud to note that our annual
conferences have strengthened this trend. We have put
together a special exhibit documenting our 10 years of
progress.
A major focus of this year’s conference
will be “Advancing Vermont’s Creative Economy.” We are
taking our lead from the recent report by the Vermont
Council on Culture and Innovation. This study underscores
what most of us have known and loved about life in these
green hills. Vermont provides the ideal setting for the
fertilization of innovative and creative activities, whether
they be commercial products or artistic endeavors. That is why our conference this year
will focus on the opportunities the creative economy offers
women, their businesses, their families and their
communities. Sometimes it seems the creative process is in
our blood; we just need a little help to give life to our
dreams for a new
venture. Workshops at this year’s conference promise just
that.
Our keynote speaker will be the
extraordinary Sabra Field. This remarkable and
talented Vermonter
demonstrates how women in Vermont can successfully combine a
creative talent with a practical business. Ever since she
opened her studio here in 1969, Sabra has proceeded to win
many awards and gain an international reputation for her
woodcut prints, which have been featured by now in two
retrospective exhibitions. I feel sure you will find her
story both an inspiration and an example to women who are
striving to reach their dreams.
Whether you are hoping to start a new
career or business, or pursue personal growth and financial
security, please join Marcelle and me for this annual
exciting and informative day. We look forward to seeing you
on Saturday, October 28.
Sincerely,

PATRICK LEAHY
